We moved from suburban Philadelphia to Newville so we could afford farmland and Chris could pursue his dream of raising and selling 100% grass-fed livestock. Kristin is pursuing her dream of being a farm wife (wink, wink). Our farm is located in the gorgeous Cumberland Valley, nestled up against Blue Mountain.
We currently raise and sell 100% grass-fed lamb and eggs from pasture raised chickens. Chris earned a degree in animal science and ag business from College of the Ozarks and continued learning by working for several livestock operations and taking various independent courses, such as the three-day holistic grazing course taught by Greg Judy and Ian Mitchell-Innes.
Everything raised at Lost Sheep Ranch is done without any government subsidies, government grants, or government loans. Sweat equity is mostly used. While we are not certified organic, animals are raised as naturally as possible, eating what the Lord intended them to eat. No animals are fed GMOs, receive artificial growth hormones, or fed antibiotics. The land is not sprayed, but fertilized with plenty of manure left all over the pasture by the livestock. The livestock are rotated through all the pastures to maximize the benefits for the land and livestock.
We are happy to answer any questions about how our animals are raised. Chris can probably tell you more than you would ever want to know.
